Warns of Economic and National Security Implications of Draconian, Narrow Approach to Energy and Climate Challenges
WASHINGTON, DC—U.S. Chamber President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue today pledged to work with President-elect Barack Obama’s energy and environment team and called on these leaders to support pro-growth energy and environmental policies. “Energy security and environmental stewardship go hand in hand,” said Donohue. “The incoming administration has a tremendous opportunity to work with the business community to transform energy challenges into opportunities to meet America’s energy needs, create American jobs, and spur investment in new technologies.” The U.S. Chamber warned against a regulatory approach to climate change that uses statutes not designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and stifle investment. The Chamber maintains that climate change must be addressed as part of an overall energy strategy that balances many complex issues facing America, including the need for economic stimulation and national security. “We are hopeful that his team will make securing America’s energy future a top priority by recognizing the role of private sector investment and innovation and ensuring the development of a range of affordable and reliable energy options to keep the U.S. competitive,” said Donohue.
