Letter in support of the "Promoting New Manufacturing Act"

Letters
May 28, 2014
Dear Chairman Whitfield and Ranking Member Rush:

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than three million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations, and dedicated to promoting, protecting, and defending America’s free enterprise system, supports the “Promoting New Manufacturing Act.” This legislation would help improve transparency and accountability of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the permitting process for factories and other industrial projects.

Improving and streamlining the permitting process—one of the Chamber’s regulatory and legislative priorities—is critical for investment, development, and growth of the economy. The Act would require EPA to track and publish information regarding the New Source Review permitting process, provide guidance to businesses on complying with new permitting standards, and report to Congress on how the agency is expediting the federal permitting process.

The Promoting New Manufacturing Act is scheduled for markup this week. The Chamber urges you to support this legislation and hopes to see the bill reported to the full House.

Sincerely,

R. Bruce Josten
