TO THE MEMBERS OF THE U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES:
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than three million businesses and organizations of every size, sector, and region, urges you to support the Domestic Energy and Jobs Act, a package of seven bills that would help improve domestic energy policy.
The Domestic Energy and Jobs Act would:
- establish an “all of the above” energy policy for federal lands;
- bring about greater certainty to leasing for energy development on public lands;
- streamline the process of obtaining permits from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for oil, natural gas, wind, solar, and other energy projects;
- mandate increased leasing activities in Alaska’s National Petroleum Reserve;
- allow BLM to conduct internet-based auctions for offshore leases;
- require a cumulative impacts analysis of several EPA rules and actions potentially affecting the supply of gasoline and diesel fuels, allowing a better understanding of the costs and consequences of those rules; and
- link the release of petroleum from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve with an increase in leasing of federal lands for energy development.
As the U.S. is projected to need 16 percent more energy by 2035, there is increasing pressure for the nation to find stable and secure domestic energy sources. The Domestic Energy and Jobs Act would enhance the energy and national security of the U.S., allow domestic energy producers to remain competitive, and promote job growth. A bright energy future depends on a stable regulatory environment and policies that do not recklessly impede energy development.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce strongly supports the Domestic Energy and Jobs Act.
