Chamber's Energy Institute Commends White House for Convening Meeting on Energy Security and Climate Change Global Solutions Require Global StrategyWASHINGTON, D.C.-The U.S. Chamber's Institute for 21st Century Energy commended President Bush for convening the Major Economies Meeting on Energy Security and Climate Change this week. "Only through a coordinated plan of action can we hope to achieve our environmental objectives," said Gen. James L. Jones (ret.), president of the Energy Institute. "Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is everyone's goal, but we must create a shared strategy for meeting that goal. President Bush has the right idea: pull together the world's economic leaders to find a global solution." The White House will convene a two-day series of meetings this week with representatives from 17 nations and the U.N., according to news reports. The meetings are focused on bringing all the major economies, including China and India, into the discussions on controlling emissions. "Greenhouse emissions are not static-they move across borders. A comprehensive, international approach is the only way forward," said Jones. "An important step in solving this global problem is technology sharing, which would enable developing nations to reduce emissions while they grow their economies." The mission of the Institute for 21st Century Energy is to unify stakeholders and policymakers behind a common strategy to ensure that America's supply of fuel and power is adequate, diverse, and affordable, while protecting national security and improving the environment. The U.S. Chamber is the world's largest business federation, representing more than 3 million businesses and organizations of every size, sector, and region.
